        從What's Best Forum的討論串來看, 這個全新設計給Studer A80R/RC plug & play的repro preamp card, 從2021/10開始到現在已經快要一年.  有興趣的可以跟著這一串討論文了解設計者Jeff Polan的設計理念.

        我記得是年初有注意到這一篇文章, 但因為是進行中, 後來也忘了繼續跟蹤.  前陣子偶然又搜尋到才發現設計已經定案而且也開始販售.  我也直接email聯繫Jeff, 討論我關心的幾個細節, Jeff也相當知無不言的回答.  第一, Jeff是A80RC的使用者, 此Project也是始於他自己動手改善自己的A80 (& Stellavox)而來的.  第二, Jeff許多設計的出發點與我前陣子進行的Nagra TA F1, Studer A820/A816 F1的想法非常接近.  第三, 也是因為與手上的A816 F1比較, 發現我的A80R Reproducer的bottleneck應該就是在使用的SEPEA repro preamp cards.  SEPEA在當年的比較上, 的確也比原本70年代設計的原廠前級來得通透安靜.  但也必須說SEPEA card畢竟不是“High end”思維下的產物, 因此NextGen的出現正好彌補這個部分......I hope.  (註, SEPEA與NextGen的價差超過五倍!)  第四, NextGen因為提供了一組Direct out after EQ, 可以不經過A80R原有的Input/Output module (甚至如果有VU bridge), 這樣可以大幅精簡訊號輸出的路徑.  對於我這樣以Repro only的A80是再好不過了.

        再來就是等收到正式測試了.  待續.

        PS.  對最後一代Studer A810/812/816/820的使用者, 由於它們的audio design是不同的, 目前NextGen是無法使用.  尤其最後一代的Studer在Head module之內有一個約20dB放大的前前級.  磁頭訊號需要經過它初步放大才會進入到機器內部的模組.  而據說這一個前前級的設計有很大的改善空間!  NextGen正在work out他們的plug & play solution for Studer A810/812/816/820.  應該是非常值得期待的.

         今天收到這一套(3x reels)的Mozart Die Entführung Aus Dem Serail by Sir Thomas Beecham (1957).  我的HMV-Columbia prerecorded tape collection增加為九卷!  

        其實prerecorded tape(商業帶)的出現至少和LP一樣早.  立體聲的商業帶甚至早於立體聲的黑膠.  不過早期立體聲的商業帶有所謂的Stagger和stack (in line) track的不同形式, 彼此是無法共用的.  商業帶的市場主要以美國為主.  歐洲市場有生產2 track/7.5ips商業帶的似乎只有EMI (HMV & Columbia).  DGG/Decca/Philips似乎只有四軌商業帶, 而且是委託Ampex生產, 主要供應美國市場.

        以下是我之前收藏到的EMI兩軌商業帶.  (其實當年的目錄相當齊全, 只是在市場上非常罕見!)

TFK M15a with line preamp & Monitor modules

TFK M15a with Neumann W444STA/O470 and NTP 277-400

        It's a last year done project.  We integrated Neumann/NTP modules with TFK M15a in original and refurbished TFK wider version trolley.  The modules are Neumann W444STA active fader, NTP277-400 plasma peakmeter and Neumann O470 monitor.  That means this custom M15a can connect to power amplifier directly.  They works beautifully.
